All Oxfam’s pieces on show at “Flashback” come directly from their store on Goose Gate in Hockley. As with all the clothes and accessories sold there, all were kindly donated by members of the public, and the proceeds from their sale go towards Oxfam’s work to help overcome poverty and suffering. Oxfam on Goose Gate is always seeking good quality donations. You never know – if you donate, it might be your old garments being given a new lease of life and modeled on the catwalk next time!

Music

        Three Minute Heist

Three Minute Heist are are a new up and coming band from the Midlands that are taking a fresh,

energetic and modern look at traditional blues.
With a wealth of catchy original material and an exciting stage dynamic, they have an appeal that reaches across all ages and tastes.
The music magazine Cack blabbath stated . “..at Y Not Festival 2013 it didn’t get any bluesier than local lads Three Minute Heist. With the sort of effortless easy sound that seems to never get old and, with the only harmonica-ist of the weekend, Three Minute Heist provided one of the highlights of the day...”

The band has just released their debut EP featuring three original songs (Soundcloud links below) which we hope you will be able to find the time to listen to.

        Manière des Bohémiens

Maniere des Bohemiens play improvised Django Reinhardt, Stephane Grappelli influenced
Gypsy Jazz and Eastern European swing. They are the most debauched, ecstatic and downright amazing live band you will have seen for a long while. Gypsy jazz played with the jaunty abandon of a misspent youth, an abusive PE teacher and a broken heart and arranged for 6 young virtuoso musicians who travel around playing the violin, guitar, double bass and accordion whilst dipping in and out of Parisian alleyways and eastern European brothels, absorbing pieces of the colourful lives they meet along the way.
Formed through a mutual love of gathering round warm bonfires and improvising, Maniére des Bohémiens spent many hours working together on the distinctive swing sound and many more on learning the melodies and developing them through improvisation.

About Flashback Events

Clementine Paro is the founder and organiser of Flashback.  She originally came from France where there are many independent shops and boutiques. Being passionate about the individuality of fashion she had the idea of linking local boutiques, talented vintage artists, vintage designers, musicians and hand crafters and promoting their independent businesses.

By collaborating they could all show their collections to a larger audience and promote the message that wearing vintage is another way of expressing yourself while reducing our carbon footprint and going green. That was how Flashback came to be.

Flashback is a series of events organised to present vintage fashion shows accompanied by live music, dancing and offering attendees the chance to discover vintage items from designers and boutiques’ stalls and to try high class vintage hair styling by professional hair dressers.  In Flashback I 2011, boutiques and designers presented glamorous Christmas Special collections to vintage lovers. The event also acted as a vintage fashion guide for potential customers. Flashback I helped to bring vintage lovers together in a fabulous and sociable setting.

The immediate manifestation of music's influence on personal identity building and social trends is its interdependence with fashion. Fashion has evolved over time along with music and whilst contemporary trends come and go, there will always be a place for vintage fashion with its core values and attitude.

Retro fashion has been on the rise and vintage fairs have become very popular. However Flashback is proud to bring to shabby chic ,a unique harmony of live music, arts and vintage fashion show, a vintage fair and dancers in one night that is different from all others.
Independent artists and businesses connected with their customers and truly expressed their specialities. Through this, they hoped to expand their customer base and to strengthen their position against the big chains.

Flashback I was a huge success and was featured in the Nottingham Post.  Now it is coming back in 2014 as Flashback II on Thursday 27th March 2014 at the Lace House bar (NG1 1LL) from 7:00pm till late in Nottingham city centre. Fresh Spring/Summer Vintage looks will be on show at the Lace House bar which is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Nottingham’s historic Lace Market.
